90kVA Cummins Diesel Generator GCM80S

The GCM80S is a 90kVA three phase diesel generator set powered by a Cummins 4BTA3.9G11, a four cylinder, 3.9 litre, turbocharged and aftercooled engine running at 1500rpm. Its Mecc Alte ECP32-2L4C brushless alternator with AVR supplies 415V at 50Hz. Ratings are 80kVA / 64kW prime and 90kVA / 72kW standby, and an electronic governor regulates engine speed.

Key features

• The 450 litre bunded tank is rated for up to 34 hours at 75% load, which is more than a day of running before refuelling.
• A DeepSea 7320 MKII controller and a four pole circuit breaker are fitted, and the breaker switches the neutral as well as the phases.
• The hot-dip galvanised skid base has fork pockets for forklift handling, and the canopy is galvanised and powder coated.
• A battery charger keeps the starting battery charged, and an isolator disconnects it for servicing.
• Harmonic distortion is under 5%, which suits sensitive electronic equipment.

Fuel use is 17.6 litres an hour at full load, 13.2 litres at 75% load and 9.1 litres at 50% load. Oil capacity is 10.9 litres and coolant capacity is 19.7 litres. The prime rating is continuous running at variable load, at an average load factor of 75%, with 10% overload for one hour in 12. The standby rating is for emergency supply at an average load factor of 85%, with no overload and a limit of 400 hours a year.

At 90kVA standby (80kVA prime), the GCM80S is in the size range used for small factories, workshops, farms, building sites and commercial premises. Typical loads are lighting, pumps, compressors, refrigeration and three phase machinery. List what must run at the same time, then check the starting demand of your largest motor, which can be several times its running current. Spread single phase loads evenly across the phases and check each machine's compliance plate.
