7kVA ABLE Yanmar Diesel Generator FP7Y1

The FP7Y1 is a 7kVA single phase diesel generator rated 6kVA (6kW) prime and 7kVA (7kW) standby at 240V, 50Hz and a power factor of 1.0. It is powered by a Yanmar 3TNV76-GGE, a three cylinder, water-cooled diesel running at 1500 rpm, and drives a four-pole brushless synchronous alternator with AVR. Its 12 volt electric start uses the included battery, and protection is an IP67-enclosed RCD plus over current protection.

Key features

• The four-pole brushless alternator runs at 1500 rpm to give the 50Hz supply, and has no brushes to wear.
• The AVR holds the output voltage steady as appliances switch on and off.
• A two-wire remote start input on the ComAp AMF20 controller lets a switch or external controller start the set.
• One 32A outlet and three 15A outlets are rated IP66 (dust tight and protected against powerful water jets), and hardwire terminals are fitted for a fixed connection.
• The canopy locks to restrict access, and it is sound deadened with a weather-resistant powder coat.
• Mine site ready bunding is part of the specification, which keeps fuel spills contained.

At 1.8 litres an hour at prime load, the 33 litre tank lasts about 18 hours. Noise is 60 dB(A) at 7 m.

What it will run

At 6kW prime the FP7Y1 supplies about 25A at 240V, and at a power factor of 1.0 the kVA and kW figures are the same. Typically that suits lighting, fridges and freezers, a pressure pump, power tools and a home office, provided the combined running load stays within the rating. Pumps, compressors and air conditioners pull several times their running current as they start, so allow for the largest motor. Take the running and starting power from each appliance's compliance plate and total them. A licensed electrician should install the inlet and changeover switch for any home backup connection.
