6kVA Honda Petrol Generator GH5000

Powered by a Honda GX340 single cylinder overhead valve (OHV) engine of 337cc, the Honda GH5000 is a single phase petrol generator with a 6kVA (5kW) output. An AC synchronous brushless alternator supplies 240V at 50Hz, the engine runs at 3000rpm, and starting is by recoil pull cord.

Key features

• Two switched 15A 240V GPO outlets share the output, and thermal overload protection helps guard against sustained overload.

The 6.1 litre tank gives 3 hours at full load and 4.2 hours at 60% load, which is about 2 litres an hour at full load and about 1.5 at 60%. Noise is 72 dB(A) measured at 7 m.

What it will run

The 5kW rating is about 21A at 240V, and the 6kVA figure is about 25A. That typically suits a workshop or site set-up of a bench grinder or drop saw, lighting, a fridge and a water pump, with the running total kept inside the rating. Compressors, pumps, fridges and saw motors draw a surge at start, so allow headroom above the running total. Read the compliance plate on each appliance for its rated watts or amps and add up everything that will run at once.
