550kVA Cummins Diesel Generator LG500C

The LG500C is a large three phase diesel generator set rated 550kVA (440kW) standby and 500kVA (400kW) prime at 415V, 50Hz. A Cummins QSZ13-G10 powers it: a six-cylinder, 13 litre, turbocharged and aftercooled diesel running at 1500 rpm with an electronic governor and electric start. A brushless MECC Alte ECO40-354 alternator with an AVR (automatic voltage regulator) produces the output, and a four pole motorised circuit breaker protects it.

Key features

• The 1000 litre fuel tank is bunded, so a second containing wall holds any leak.
• Fork pockets in the heavy duty skid base give a forklift access for positioning the set.

At 75% load the set runs for 13 hours on a full tank. Fuel use is 101 litres an hour at full load, 74.2 at 75% load and 48.9 at half load. The silenced canopy is rated at 77 dB(A) at 7 m.

What it will run

A set of this size is sized from the site's load schedule, not from the nameplate. List the running loads, the starting current of the largest motors and any step loads, then have an electrician or engineer assess the schedule before the set is specified. The two ratings suit different duties. Standby power is for emergency supply at an average 85% load factor, with no overload capability and up to 400 hours a year. Prime power is for variable loads that run for unlimited hours a year at an average 75% load factor, with 10% overload for 1 hour in any 12.
