550kVA Cummins or Perkins Diesel Generator GC500S / GP500S

This page covers two 1500rpm three phase diesel generator sets in the 550kVA class: the Cummins-powered GC500S and the Perkins-powered GP500S. The GC500S prime rating is continuous variable-load running at an average load factor of 75%, with 10% overload for one hour in 12. Its standby rating is emergency supply at an average load factor of 85%, with no overload and a limit of 400 hours a year.

What it will run

At 550kVA standby (500kVA prime), the GC500S is sized around site loads rather than single appliances: lighting, pumps, compressors, air conditioning plant, workshop machinery and controls fed from a main switchboard. Add up everything that runs together, then allow for the starting surge of your largest motors, which can draw several times their running current. Spread single phase loads evenly across the phases. Connection to site wiring should go through a changeover or transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician, and an electrician or engineer should assess the load schedule before the set is specified.
