50kVA ABLE Diesel Generator PL50X3

The PL50X3 is a 50kVA three phase diesel generator rated 50kVA (40kW) prime (PRP) and 55kVA (44kW) standby (ESP) at 415V, 50Hz and a power factor of 0.8. It is powered by a Xinchai 4D35ZD, a four cylinder, water-cooled diesel of 3.5 litres running at 1500 rpm, and drives a four-pole brushless synchronous alternator with AVR. It starts electrically on 12 volts from the included battery, and protection is an IP67-enclosed RCD plus over current protection.

Key features

• The alternator is built with class H insulation and IP23 protection, and voltage regulation of ±0.5% keeps the output steady as loads change.
• A switch or external controller can start the set through the ComAp AMF controller's two-wire remote start.
• Two 32A and one 20A three phase outlets and one 15A single phase outlet are rated IP66 (dust tight and protected against powerful water jets), and hardwire terminals suit a fixed connection.
• The lockable, sound deadened canopy has a weather-resistant powder coat and stainless steel fittings.
• The specification includes mine site ready bunding for sites that need fuel spills contained.
• Ambient temperatures from -25°C to 45°C are specified, along with humidity below 80% and altitude below 1000 m.

A 290 litre tank and fuel use of about 10 litres an hour at prime load work out to about 29 hours of running. Noise is 66.4 dB(A) at 7 m. The engine is rated 49.0 kW prime and 54.0 kW standby. The design standards are CE, ISO 8528-5:2005, AS 3000-2018 and AS 3010-2017.

What it will run

At 40kW prime the PL50X3 has a rated current of about 69A per phase, and at a power factor of 0.8 the loads should be added up in kW as well as kVA. For a three phase set like this, frame the choice around the loads of the site. Typically it suits the refrigeration, pumps, lighting and motors of a cold store, a farm processing operation, a club or a small factory. Because motors draw several times their running current as they start, bring the largest on first, then add other loads, and keep the three phases balanced. The running and starting power of each machine is on its compliance plate. The site load should be assessed by an electrician before the set is specified, and a licensed electrician should do the switchboard connection.
