550kVA Cummins Diesel Generator C550D5

The C550 D5e is a three phase diesel generator set rated 550kVA (440kW) standby and 500kVA (400kW) prime at 50Hz. It runs on a Cummins QSX15 G8, a four-stroke, in-line, six-cylinder diesel that is turbocharged and charge air cooled, at 1500 rpm under an electronic governor with a 24V DC starting system. A set-mounted radiator cools the engine, and the alternator is a Stamford, wye connected.

• One set carries two ratings: standby for emergency supply, and prime for a varying load with no annual hour limit, with 10% overload capability available on prime.
• The QSX15 G8 compresses and then cools its intake air, which supports a gross engine output of 500 kWm at the standby rating and 444 kWm at the prime rating.
• Electronic governing keeps engine speed, and with it the 50Hz frequency, steady as loads come on and off.
• The radiator is mounted on the set and designed around a 50°C ambient, with 65.9 litres of coolant including the radiator.

The QSX15 G8 holds 91 litres of lube oil, and its maximum fuel flow of 424 litres an hour is the figure the fuel supply lines need to handle.

Total the running loads, note the starting current of the largest motors and any step loads, and have an electrician or engineer review the schedule before the set is ordered. Standby power (ESP) is for varying loads during a utility outage. Prime power (PRP) is for varying loads for unlimited hours.
