35kVA ABLE Diesel Generator PL35X1

The PL35X1 is a 35kVA single phase diesel generator rated 35kVA (35kW) prime (PRP) and 38kVA (38kW) standby (ESP) at 240V, 50Hz and a power factor of 1.0. Its engine is a Xinchai 4D35ZD, a four cylinder, water-cooled diesel of 3.5 litres running at 1500 rpm, and it drives a four-pole brushless synchronous alternator with AVR. With 12 volt electric start and the battery included, the set also has an IP67-enclosed RCD and over current protection.

Key features

• The engine is naturally aspirated with direct injection and a mechanical governor, so it has no turbocharger.
• The alternator has 100% copper windings, class H insulation and IP23 protection, and it holds voltage within ±0.5%, so the output stays steady as loads change.
• A ComAp AMF controller with a two-wire remote start input lets a switch or external controller start the set.
• The canopy is lockable and sound deadened, with a weather-resistant powder coat and stainless steel fittings.
• Three 15A outlets have an IP66 rating (dust tight and protected against powerful water jets), and hardwire terminals suit a fixed connection.
• Mine site ready bunding is included in the specification to contain fuel spills.

At about 10 litres an hour at prime load, a full 290 litre tank gives about 29 hours of running. Noise is 66.1 dB(A) at 7 m. Its design standards are CE, ISO 8528-5:2005, AS 3000-2018 and AS 3010-2017.

What it will run

At 240V the PL35X1 has a rated current of about 145A, and at a power factor of 1.0 the kVA and kW figures are the same. It is a large single phase set, so frame the choice around the loads of the site rather than single appliances. Typically it suits a rural property on single phase supply, a large homestead, a single phase commercial building with refrigeration and air conditioning, or a workshop. Motors in pumps, compressors and air conditioners can draw several times their running current as they start, so allow headroom for the largest. Check each appliance's compliance plate for its running and starting power. An electrician should assess the site load before the set is specified, and connection to a switchboard or for home backup should be made through an inlet and changeover switch installed by a licensed electrician.
