The MaxWatt MX3000R is a recoil start petrol generator rated at 2500W, with a 2800W maximum (3.5kVA). Its 208cc engine drives a single phase, 240V, 50Hz output.

Key features

Recoil start needs no battery, so there is nothing to keep charged between jobs.
The engine runs at one fixed speed whatever the load.
Size your running load against the 2500W rated output, and treat the 2800W maximum as headroom for the surge when a motor starts.
The 15 litre tank runs 9 hours at 50% load, so a single fill covers a working day at moderate load.
Engine oil is included with the generator.

Run time falls to 6.5 hours at 100% load. Fuel use works out to about 1.7 litres an hour at half load and 2.3 litres an hour at full load.

What it will run

At 2500W rated (about 10.4A at 240V), the MX3000R typically runs a drill, a grinder or a saw, a work light and a pump together, provided the running total stays within the rated figure. Motors in saws, pumps and compressors draw a larger surge at start-up, so check each appliance's compliance plate for rated watts or amps and allow extra capacity. It is a conventional constant-speed generator rather than an inverter model, so it is best matched to tools, lighting and pumps; for laptops and other sensitive electronics, an inverter generator is the better choice. The set is single phase, so it will not run three phase equipment. Connecting it to a building's wiring for backup means an inlet and changeover switch installed by a licensed electrician.
