The P2000i is a single phase petrol inverter generator rated COP 1.60kW and LTP (maximum) 2.00kW at 50Hz, with a power factor of 1. It is powered by a Yamaha MZ80, an air-cooled, single cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine of 79cm³, and it starts by recoil.

Key features

  • An inverter generator regulates its output electronically, which keeps voltage and frequency steady for sensitive electronics.
  • The Yamaha MZ80 engine is air-cooled, so there is no coolant to check or top up.
  • A recoil starter means there is no starting battery to keep charged.
  • The control panel is rated IP54, which protects it against dust and splashing water.

Fuel use is 0.79L/h at 75% load, so the 4.2 litre tank gives 5.3 hours at that load. Noise is 59 dB(A) at 7 m.

What it will run

At the 1.60kW COP rating the P2000i supplies about 6.7A at 240V (1.6kW / 240V, approximate), and at the 2.00kW LTP maximum it supplies about 8.3A. Size the set against the COP rating and treat LTP as the maximum. That typically suits lighting, phone and laptop charging, a TV and a small fridge, with a power tool or two. Motors in fridges, pumps and tools draw several times their running current at start, so check your largest motor first. Check the compliance plate on each appliance for its running and starting figures, then add them up. Run a petrol generator outdoors in open air with plenty of ventilation. To power circuits at home, have a licensed electrician install an inlet and changeover switch before connecting it. Send us your load list and we will help you size it.

The P2000i suits touring and camping, caravan stays, small outdoor jobs and backup for lights, a fridge and charging at home.
