2063kVA Cummins Diesel Generator GC1875S

The GC1875S is a three phase diesel generator rated at 1875 kVA (1500 kW) Prime Power and 2063 kVA (1650 kW) Standby Power at 415V and 50Hz. Its engine is a Cummins QSK60G3, a 16 cylinder, 60 litre turbocharged and aftercooled diesel running at 1500 rpm, and the alternator is a Stamford Pi734F, brushless with an AVR.

Key features

• A bunded 2000 litre fuel tank gives a 7 hour run time at 75% load, and the bund contains any leak from the tank.
• Standby Power is an emergency supply rating with an average 85% load factor, no overload capability and a limit of 400 hours a year, while Prime Power allows variable load for unlimited hours a year at an average 75% load factor with 10% overload for 1 hour in any 12, so choose the rating that matches the duty.
• A galvanised, powder-coated canopy protects the set and resists corrosion.
• Class H insulation and harmonic distortion under 5% in the alternator suit electronic loads as well as motors.
• An electronic governor keeps engine speed, and so frequency, steady as the load changes.
• A battery charger and isolator keep the starting battery charged between runs.

Fuel use is 371 L/h at 100% load, 276 L/h at 75% and 196 L/h at 50%. The silenced canopy is rated at 87 dB(A) at 7 m. A DeepSea 7420 MKII controller manages the set, and the engine holds 261 litres of oil and 410 litres of coolant.

What it will run

Standby Power of 2063 kVA works out at about 2870 A per phase at 415V, and Prime Power of 1875 kVA at about 2610 A. Sizing starts with the site's load schedule: the running load, the largest motors, how each one starts and the order in which loads come on. Motors can draw several times their running current as they start, and a soft starter or drive reduces that surge. Compliance plates give each machine's current. An engineer should assess the schedule, and a licensed electrician should design and install the connection to the site's switchgear, including any changeover or transfer arrangement.
