200kVA ABLE Diesel Generator LG200D3

The LG200D3 is a 200kVA three phase diesel generator rated 200kVA (160kW) prime and 220kVA (176kW) standby at 415V, 50Hz and a power factor of 0.8. A six-cylinder turbo diesel, water cooled and running at 1500 rpm, drives a four-pole brushless synchronous alternator with AVR. Electric start runs on 24 volts with the batteries included, and an IP67-enclosed RCD and over current protection are fitted.

Key features

• A turbocharged six-cylinder engine at 1500 rpm drives a four-pole alternator, which gives a 50Hz supply.
• The alternator is brushless, so there are no brushes to wear, and the AVR corrects the output voltage as loads change.
• Remote starting is through a two-wire input on the ComAp AMF20 controller, which an external switch or controller can operate.
• Two 32A and one 20A three phase outlets and one 15A single phase outlet are rated IP66 (dust tight and protected against powerful water jets), with hardwire terminals for a fixed connection.
• The canopy is lockable and sound deadened, with a weather-resistant powder coat and stainless steel fittings.
• Mine site ready bunding is part of the specification and contains fuel spills.

At prime load the set uses about 48 litres of diesel an hour, so a full 950 litre tank lasts about 20 hours. Noise is 67 dB(A) at 7 m.

What it will run

Size the LG200D3 against the total load of a site rather than single appliances. At 160kW prime it has a rated current of 280A per phase, and at a power factor of 0.8 the loads should be added up in kW as well as kVA. Typically it suits the motors, compressors, conveyors, pumps and lighting of a processing plant or a large commercial complex. Bring the largest motors on first and add other loads in steps, because motors draw several times their running current as they start, and keep the three phases balanced. Each machine's compliance plate gives its running and starting power. An electrician or engineer should assess the site load and the connection before the set is specified, and a licensed electrician should connect it to the switchboard through a changeover switch.
