2000W Welling & Crossley Portable Power Station WC-BG2000

The WC-BG2000 is a battery power station from Welling & Crossley, rated at 2000W continuous with 4000W maximum (surge) output from a 1,843Wh LiFePO4 battery. It has no engine, fuel or exhaust: 240 V AC comes from a built-in inverter, alongside USB, 12 V DC and wireless charging outputs, and the battery recharges from a wall socket or from solar panels through the built-in MPPT controller.

Key features

• 1,843Wh LiFePO4 battery: lithium iron phosphate cells with the capacity to keep a camp fridge going for about a day and a half.
• 2000W rated, 4000W surge: runs most single household appliances, with surge headroom for motor start-up.
• 1200W AC charging: recharges to 80% from a wall socket in approximately 70 minutes.
• Wide-range solar input: 10 to 150 V DC at up to 1200W through the MPPT controller, suiting a range of panel arrays.
• Pure battery operation: no engine, fuel or exhaust, so it can be used indoors.
• Three 240 V AC outlets: 15 A pattern sockets within the 2000W rating.
• Two wireless charging pads: plus USB-A, USB-C 100W and 12 V outputs for devices and accessories.

From a wall socket it recharges to 80% in approximately 70 minutes (1200W AC input). Run time is load dependent: as listed for this model, a 45W camp fridge runs for about a day and a half, a 100W load for around 15 hours. Outputs: 3 x AC 240V/50Hz/15A (2000W, surge 4000W); 2 x USB-A 24W; 1 x USB-C 100W; 1 x Car Charger 12V/10A; 2 x DC5521 12V/10A; 2 x Wireless charging up to 15W. Inputs: AC Input 230V 50Hz 1200W max; Solar Input 10-150V DC 1200W max (MPPT).

What it will run

With 2000W continuous it typically handles most household appliances one at a time: a fridge or freezer, microwave, kettle or toaster of up to 2000W, TV, lighting, laptops and a modem and router, or a circular saw or drill on a job site. Run time falls as load rises, so divide the battery capacity by the total watts you plan to draw for a rough estimate, and allow for inverter losses. Check the rating plate on each appliance, and remember that motor loads such as fridges, pumps and compressors draw a start-up surge well above their running watts.

The WC-BG2000 suits home backup through outages for refrigeration, communications and lighting, extended camping and touring with solar top-ups, small worksites and trades, and off-grid cabins with a modest solar array. The WC-BG3600 and WC-BG5500 extend the format to worksite loads.
