2200kVA Perkins Diesel Generator GP2000S

The GP2000S is a three phase diesel generator rated at 2000 kVA (1600 kW) Prime Power and 2200 kVA (1760 kW) Standby Power at 415V and 50Hz. Its Perkins 4016-TAG2A is a 16 cylinder, 61.1 litre turbocharged and aftercooled diesel running at 1500 rpm, coupled to a Leroy Somer LSA51.2M60 brushless alternator with an AVR.

• Standby Power is rated for emergency supply at an average 85% load factor, with no overload capability and a limit of 400 hours a year; Prime Power is rated for variable load for unlimited hours a year at an average 75% load factor, with 10% overload for 1 hour in any 12.
• A high ambient cooling package suits sites with high air temperatures.
• Class H insulation and harmonic distortion under 5% in the alternator suit electronic loads as well as motors.
• A four pole circuit breaker isolates the neutral as well as the three phases.
• A battery charger and isolator keep the starting battery charged and let it be disconnected when needed.

Fuel use is 434 L/h at 100% load, 316 L/h at 75% and 210 L/h at 50%. The engine holds 214 litres of oil and 316 litres of coolant, and a DeepSea 7420 MKII controller manages the set.

What it will run

Standby Power of 2200 kVA works out at about 3060 A per phase at 415V, and Prime Power of 2000 kVA at about 2780 A. That typically suits the load of a large plant or building complex, with motors, pumps, compressors, refrigeration, lighting and air conditioning shared across the three phases. The largest motor sets the starting demand, since a motor can draw several times its running current as it starts, and a soft starter or drive reduces that surge. Check each machine's compliance plate for its current. An engineer should assess the site's load schedule, and a licensed electrician should design and install the connection to the switchgear, including any changeover or transfer arrangement.
