18kVA CAT Diesel Generator DE18 ENCL

The DE18 is a stationary, three phase diesel generator set with an output of 18 kVA, which is 14.4 kW at a power factor of 0.8. A Cat C2.2 engine drives a Leroy Somer alternator, and the set is operated from an EMCP 4.1 control panel.

• The Cat C2.2 is a naturally aspirated, water cooled, four-cylinder, four-stroke diesel of 2.2 litres with a compression ratio of 23.3:1.
• Engine speed is set by a mechanical governor at 1500 rpm for 50 Hz output, so no electronic speed control is involved.

An 18 kVA three phase set is selected from the site load, not the nameplate. List the three phase motors and the single phase circuits, spread the single phase loads evenly across the phases, and allow for motor starting: pumps, compressors and refrigeration plant draw several times their running current as they start, so start the largest first and add the rest in steps. Use the compliance plate on each item for its running and starting figures. An electrician or engineer should assess the load before the set is chosen, and a licensed electrician must make the connection to your switchboard.
