17kVA ABLE Diesel Generator PL17X3

The PL17X3 is a 17kVA three phase diesel generator rated 17kVA (13.6kW) prime (PRP) and 18.7kVA standby (ESP) at 415V, 50Hz and a power factor of 0.8. Its engine is a FAWDE 4DW81-23D, a four cylinder, water-cooled diesel of 2.16 litres running at 1500 rpm, and it drives a four-pole brushless synchronous alternator with AVR. The 12 volt electric start comes with the battery, and an IP67-enclosed RCD and over current protection are fitted.

Key features

• The engine is naturally aspirated with direct injection and a mechanical governor, so it has no turbocharger or electronic governor.
• The alternator has class H insulation and IP23 protection, and it holds voltage within ±0.5%, so the output stays steady as loads change.
• The set can be started remotely: the ComAp AMF controller has a two-wire start input for an external switch or controller.
• The lockable canopy has sound absorption and the base frame has vibration isolators, which limits noise and vibration.
• Three 15A single phase outlets and one 20A three phase outlet are rated IP66 (dust tight and protected against powerful water jets), and hardwire terminals are fitted for a fixed connection.
• The set has mine site ready bunding for sites that need fuel spills contained.
• Ambient temperatures from -25°C to 45°C are specified, with a coolant heater needed below 5°C, along with humidity below 80% and altitude below 1000 m.

The tank holds 125 litres and noise is 65.6 dB(A) at 7 m.

What it will run

The PL17X3 is a small three phase set. Typically it suits a mechanical or fabrication workshop, irrigation and grain handling on a farm, or a commercial kitchen. Start the largest motor first and add other loads afterwards, because motors draw several times their running current as they start, and keep the three phases balanced. Running and starting power are shown on each machine's compliance plate. Prime (PRP) is available for unlimited annual hours on a variable load, with an average load factor under 70% over 24 hours and 10% overload for 1 hour in every 12. Standby (ESP) is limited to 500 hours a year, with an average load factor under 80% and no overload. Get an electrician to assess the site load before the set is specified, and a licensed electrician to connect it to the switchboard.
