1925kVA Perkins Diesel Generator GP1750

The GP1750 is a heavy-duty three phase diesel generator rated at 1750 kVA (1400 kW) Prime Power at 415V and 50Hz. It is powered by a Perkins 4016-TAG1A, a 16 cylinder, 61.1 litre turbocharged and aftercooled diesel running at 1500 rpm, and it drives a Leroy Somer LSA51.2S55 brushless alternator with an AVR.

Key features

• A high ambient cooling package is fitted for sites where the air temperature is high.
• Size the set to the duty it will do: Prime Power covers continuous operation at variable load for unlimited hours a year (average 75% load factor, 10% overload for 1 hour in any 12), while Standby Power is the emergency supply rating (average 85% load factor, no overload, limit of 400 hours a year).
• The alternator is brushless with Class H insulation and harmonic distortion below 5%, so the supply suits electronic loads as well as motors.
• An electronic governor holds engine speed, and so frequency, steady as the load changes.
• A four pole circuit breaker switches the neutral along with the three phases, so the whole output can be isolated.
• A battery charger and isolator keep the starting battery charged between runs and let it be isolated when idle.

Fuel use is 362 L/h at 100% load, 272 L/h at 75% and 185 L/h at 50%. A DeepSea 7420 MKII controller manages the set.

What it will run

At 1750 kVA Prime Power the set supplies about 2430 A per phase at 415V. That typically suits the load of a large industrial, processing or commercial site, with chillers, pumps, compressors and building services shared across the three phases. Treat motor starting as the first check: the largest motor can draw several times its running current as it starts, and a soft starter or drive reduces that surge. Check each machine's compliance plate for its current. An engineer should assess the site's load schedule, including starting and step loads, and a licensed electrician should design and install the connection to the switchgear, including any changeover or transfer arrangement.
