The HBD165S is a three phase Balanty (Hyundai) diesel generator set rated at 165 kVA / 132 kW standby and 150 kVA / 120 kW prime, at 50 Hz and 415 V. Its duty is critical standby / limited prime. A six cylinder, 6.75 litre, turbocharged and aftercooled 6M11G165/5 engine runs at 1500 rpm under an electronic governor and drives a Hyundai HK274F brushless alternator with AVR. Control is by a DeepSea 6120 module, and the set has a four pole circuit breaker.

Key features

The alternator is brushless with an AVR (automatic voltage regulator) to hold output voltage steady, and its windings have class H insulation.
Harmonic distortion is under 5%, which matters when sensitive electronic equipment shares the supply.
The silenced canopy is rated at 74 dB(A) at 7 m, so the noise level can be checked against a site limit.
The bunded 610-litre fuel tank gives a run time of 24 hours at 75% load, and the bund contains fuel if the tank leaks.
A heavy-duty skid base with fork pockets allows the set to be positioned with a forklift.
The canopy is galvanised and powder coated, which protects the steel against corrosion.
A battery charger keeps the starting battery topped up, and a battery isolator allows it to be disconnected.

Fuel consumption is 32.6 L/h at full load, 24.6 L/h at 75% load and 16.7 L/h at 50% load, so running costs can be estimated for your own duty cycle. Oil capacity is 17 litres and coolant capacity is 42 litres. Standby covers emergency supply at an average load factor of 85%, with no overload and a limit of 400 hours a year.

At 165 kVA / 132 kW standby, the HBD165S typically suits the essential load of a workshop, small factory or commercial building: three phase motors, pumps, compressors, lighting, refrigeration and IT. Size it from the real load schedule rather than the nameplate. Motors draw several times their running current as they start, so allow for your largest motor, and spread single phase circuits evenly across the three phases. Check the compliance plate on each appliance for its running and starting figures. An electrician or engineer should review the schedule, and the connection to the site wiring, including any changeover or automatic transfer switch, must be installed by a licensed electrician.
