150kVA Cummins Diesel Generator LG135C

The Cummins LG135C is a three phase diesel generator set for 415V, 50Hz supply, rated at 150kVA (120kW) standby and 135kVA (108kW) prime. The engine is the Cummins 6BTAA5.9G2, a 5.9 litre six cylinder diesel that is turbocharged and after cooled, with an electronic governor and a rated speed of 1500 rpm. It drives a Leroy Somer TAL-A44-J brushless alternator with AVR, and the set has electric start.

Key features

• Both ratings let an engineer size the set for emergency duty or for regular running on a variable load.
• The silenced canopy is rated at 73 dB(A) at 7 m, and its galvanised powder-coated finish protects the steel.
• A bunded 610 litre fuel tank is rated for 26 hours at 75% load, so a full day of running at that load needs no refuelling.
• The DeepSea 6120 controller and four pole circuit breaker keep control and protection on the set itself.

The standby rating suits emergency supply at an average 85% load factor, up to 400 hours a year, with no overload capability. The prime rating suits variable-load running at an average 75% load factor with no annual hour limit, and it allows a 10% overload for one hour in every twelve.

What it will run

At 150kVA standby (120kW), the LG135C typically supports the essential services of a multi-tenant building, a processing plant, a water or sewage pumping station or a large workshop: lighting, pumps, refrigeration, ventilation and control systems. Start from the site's load schedule. Motors, chillers and compressors can draw several times their running current at start-up, and the biggest of them usually decides the size of set. Balance the load across the three phases and check each machine's compliance plate. An engineer should review the schedule, and any connection to the switchboard must go through a changeover or transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician.
