14kVA ABLE Yanmar Diesel Generator FP14YS

The FP14YS is a 14kVA three phase diesel generator rated 13.5kVA (10.8kW) prime and 14kVA (11kW) standby at 415V, 50Hz and a power factor of 0.8. A Yanmar 3TNV88-GGE, a three cylinder, water-cooled diesel running at 1500 rpm, drives a Stamford four-pole brushless alternator with AVR. Electric start runs on 12 volts with the battery included, and an IP67-enclosed RCD and over current protection are fitted.

Key features

• The Yanmar engine turns at 1500 rpm and drives a four-pole alternator, the pairing that produces a 50Hz supply.
• The Stamford alternator is brushless and has an AVR, so there are no brushes to wear and the output voltage stays steady as the load changes.
• A two-wire remote start input on the ComAp AMF20 controller lets an external switch or controller start the set.
• Three 15A single phase outlets and one 20A three phase outlet are rated IP66 (dust tight and protected against powerful water jets), so both kinds of load can be connected, and hardwire terminals are fitted for a fixed connection.

At prime load the set uses about 3 litres of diesel an hour, so a full 65 litre tank runs it for about 22 hours. Noise is 60 dB(A) at 7 m.

What it will run

At 10.8kW prime the FP14YS has a rated current of 19A per phase. It is a small three phase set, so frame the choice around the machines on site rather than single appliances. Typically it suits workshop machines, a pump or small compressor, a cool room, and lighting and power for a small factory or commercial kitchen, with the single phase outlets for tools and lighting. Start the largest motor first and bring other loads on afterwards, because motors draw several times their running current as they start, and keep the three phases balanced. Take the running and starting power for each machine from its compliance plate. An electrician should assess the site load before the set is specified, and connection to the switchboard through a changeover switch should be made by a licensed electrician.
