1394kVA Pramac Diesel Generator GQW1400V TwinGen

The GQW1400V is a three phase diesel generator rated 1394kVA (1114kW) standby (LTP) and 1252kVA (1000kW) prime (PRP) at 50Hz. It combines two gensets, each powered by a Volvo TWD1643GE, a turbocharged six cylinder in-line diesel of 16120cm³ running at 1500 rpm. Each alternator is a Mecc Alte ECO40 2L, a brushless four pole unit with Class H insulation and IP23 protection, and the metal fuel tank holds 1800 litres.

Key features

• The set carries both a standby (LTP) rating and a prime (PRP) rating, so it can be sized for emergency backup or for running on a variable load for long periods.
• Each turbocharged six cylinder in-line engine of 16120cm³ turns at 1500 rpm, the speed that gives 50Hz from a four pole alternator.
• The brushless Mecc Alte ECO40 2L alternators have no brushes to wear, and their Class H insulation gives the windings thermal headroom.
• IP23 protection on the alternators guards against larger solid objects and light water spray.

What it will run

A set of this size is chosen from a site load schedule, not from a list of appliances. At 1114kW standby and 1000kW prime, the GQW1400V typically supplies a plant's motors, pumps, compressors, chillers, lighting and building services together on a three phase supply. Large motors draw several times their running current at start, so the starting method (direct on line, star-delta or soft start) and the order the motors start in both affect the size of set you need. Check the compliance plate on each machine for its running and starting figures and build the schedule from those. Have an engineer assess the schedule, and have a licensed electrician connect the set to the site's switchboard through a changeover or transfer arrangement.
