125kVA ABLE Diesel Generator LG125D3

The LG125D3 is a 125kVA three phase diesel generator rated 125kVA (100kW) prime and 137kVA (110kW) standby at 415V, 50Hz and a power factor of 0.8. It is powered by a four-cylinder turbo diesel, water cooled and running at 1500 rpm, and drives a four-pole brushless synchronous alternator with AVR. Starting is electric at 24 volts with the batteries included, and protection is an IP67-enclosed RCD plus over current protection.

Key features

• The engine turns at 1500 rpm and drives a four-pole alternator, the pairing that produces a 50Hz supply.
• Brushless construction removes brush wear from the alternator, and the AVR keeps the output voltage steady as the load changes.
• The set can be started remotely: the ComAp AMF20 controller has a two-wire start input for an external switch or controller.
• Two 32A and one 20A three phase outlets and one 15A single phase outlet are rated IP66 (dust tight and protected against powerful water jets), and hardwire terminals are fitted for a fixed connection.
• Access to the set is restricted by a lockable canopy that is sound deadened, with a weather-resistant powder coat and stainless steel fittings.
• The specification includes mine site ready bunding, which contains fuel spills.

At prime load the set uses 25 litres an hour, so the 680 litre tank gives about 27 hours of running. Noise is 67 dB(A) at 7 m.

What it will run

The LG125D3 is a large three phase set, so size it around the combined loads of a site rather than single appliances. At prime it supplies 100kW, with a rated current of 175A per phase, and at a power factor of 0.8 the load should be added up in kW as well as kVA. Typically it suits a plant's motors, compressors and pumps together with lighting, refrigeration and air conditioning. Add loads in steps with the largest motor first, because motors draw several times their running current as they start, and keep the three phases balanced. Check each machine's compliance plate for its running and starting power. An electrician or engineer should assess the site load before the set is specified, and connection to the switchboard through a changeover switch should be made by a licensed electrician.
