11kVA ABLE Diesel Generator PL11D3

The PL11D3 is an 11kVA three phase diesel generator rated 11kVA (9kW) prime (PRP) and 11.4kVA (9.4kW) standby (ESP) at 415V, 50Hz and a power factor of 0.8. Power comes from a YangDong YD385D three cylinder diesel, water cooled and turning at 1500 rpm, which drives a four-pole brushless alternator with AVR. It starts electrically at 12 volts with the battery included, and protection is an IP67-enclosed RCD plus over current protection.

Key features

• The YD385D is naturally aspirated with direct injection and a mechanical governor, so there is no turbocharger to look after.
• The alternator has 100% copper windings, class H insulation and IP23 protection, with voltage regulation of ±0.5%, so the output stays steady as loads come on and off.
• A ComAp AMF controller with a two-wire remote start input lets an external switch or controller start the set.
• The fuel tank is built into the base frame, so there is no separate tank to connect.
• The canopy is lockable and sound deadened, with a weather-resistant powder coat and stainless steel fittings.
• Sound-absorbing cotton and vibration isolators are part of the build, which limits noise and vibration.
• Ambient temperatures from -25°C to 45°C are specified (a coolant heater is needed below 5°C), along with humidity below 80% and altitude below 1000 m.

The tank holds 70 litres and noise is 65 dB(A) at 7 m. Outlets are 3 x 15A single phase and 1 x 20A three phase (IP66), with hardwire terminals for a fixed connection. Its design standards are CE, ISO 8528-5:2005, AS 3000-2018 and AS 3010-2017.

What it will run

The PL11D3 is a small three phase set. Typically it suits a bore or irrigation pump, a cool room, a packing facility or a workshop with a few machines. Start the largest motor first and add other loads afterwards, because motors draw several times their running current as they start. Check each machine's compliance plate for running and starting power, and spread the load across the three phases. Prime (PRP) allows unlimited annual hours on a variable load with an average load factor below 70% and 10% overload for 1 hour in every 12. Standby (ESP) is limited to 500 hours a year, with an average load factor below 80% and no overload. Before specifying the set, have an electrician assess the site load; a licensed electrician should then connect it to the switchboard.
