The SQ-1120B-AU-B is a single phase Kubota diesel generator rated at 11.8kVA (11.8kW) standby and 11.2kVA (11.2kW) continuous output at 240V. Its engine is a Kubota D1703-EBG, a three cylinder, 1.647 litre diesel running at 1500 rpm and direct coupled to a four pole alternator with a power factor of 1.0. It starts electrically.

Key features

Voltage regulation is 1.5% and total harmonic distortion is under 5%, so electronics are suitable loads as well as motors.
The fuel tank is bottom-mounted and bunded, holding 72 litres, with the bund there to catch leaks.
The control panel has a locking door, which restricts access to the controls.
The enclosure combines an oversized muffler, a noise-absorbing duct and a quieter cooling fan.
Maintenance access is from one side of the set, so servicing does not mean working around the whole enclosure.
The set shuts down on abnormal oil pressure or water temperature, low fuel, alternator charge failure, an open engine room door, over voltage, frequency, current or power, and under voltage or frequency.

Fuel consumption at full load is 3.9 litres an hour, and the 72 litre tank gives a rated 24 hours at three quarter load. Rated current is 46.7A at 240V. Engine oil capacity is 5.6 litres and coolant capacity is 6.6 litres. The starting battery is an 80D26R (55Ah), and remote start is by two wire connection. The set has forklift slots for handling.

What it will run

At 11.8kVA standby and 11.2kVA continuous, the SQ-1120B-AU-B typically covers the essential loads of a workshop, farm shed or small business: lighting, fridges and freezers, pumps, power tools, a compressor and office equipment. Motors draw several times their running current at start, so size the set around your largest motor first and add the rest. Check the compliance plate on each appliance for its running and starting load. To back up a building, connection is through an inlet and changeover switch installed by a licensed electrician.
